Badger - the unsatisfied child

story written by psychologist Maria Baumgarten

Badger

It was once, not very long ago and not far away, a child by his real name Peter, but his family and friends nicknamed him: "Badger" because he was unhappy all the time. He even considered that he had nothing to thank others for. The verb most often used by Badger, was I WANT, and the most commonly used phrase: "I want to be left alone".

Badger's day started like this:

First dissatisfaction : Why do I have to go to school?

Second dissatisfaction : How boring to be in the classroom! I could do something else in this time!

Third dissatisfaction : Why my colleagues don't behave the way I want? I should teach them a lesson!

Fourth dissatisfaction : The teacher does not have the right to listen to me when he wants to, but when I want to: He asked me to answer, so I don't say anything, because I'm the boss! What nerve he has to give me this low mark! I show him, no one orders me.

Fifth dissatisfaction : What insensibility fror my mother to ask me to make my bed and eat when I come home! She doesn't understand that it's not her job what I do?; She should mind her own business and just give me money for my needs, isn't that her role?

Sixth dissatisfaction : They say I should do my homework, I think they all went crazy. Just imagine, they don't let me out because I didn't do my homework! Where do these people think they are? I do not go out, but neither do my homework, let us see who wins.

Seventh dissatisfaction : I want to play on the phone, they say I should leave the phone and go to sweep the yard. Are they all nuts? Can't these people really leave me alone? Everyone has something with me, nobody loves me. Only stupid requirements: learn, clean, help grandma, don't talk to me nasty. Nothing good in this house.

Eighth dissatisfaction : They really don't stop: they ask me to wash my bowl after I eat, I really can not get it, till now mom or dad washed it, now that I'm older, they want me to wash it. I almost start laughing, I'm not washing it and finish, let us see what these insufferable people will do to me.

The ninth dissatisfaction : I should play with my younger brother, says my mother. I tell her, you play with him because you made him. You wanted another child, wash your head with it, don't put him on my back. I told you I don't want a brother. It was better alone, you had to annoy me with him too. And now you love him more, because he is better, he is not bad like me.

Tenth dissatisfaction : That really outweighs them all, after the nasty day I had, now I can't even sleep when I want. How ugly to ask me to go to bed at 22:00 because I'm going to school tomorrow. As if I want to go to school. Well I don't want to, you go to bed and then you go to school. I'm tired: rules, rules, rules. Really, you can't live in this house. CAN ANYONE LEAVE ME ALONE?! I CANNOT STAND ANYMORE !, Badger's inner voice shouted and then decided: I think I'll leave home.

And that night, before falling asleep, Badger imagined a place where there were no more rules to follow, where you do not need to do what others ask you, where he will be finally free of responsibilities and nobody will come with excessive and ridiculous demands. He will finally do what he wants. The idea of leaving home seemed ever better.

Said and done, before dawn, Badger, with a few clothes in the backpack, sneaked out of the house and left. He was 13 years old and now he was on his feet, a big boy, high chest, full of him, he was finally feeling a free man.

He walked and walked, but after about 3 hours his legs started to hurt and he thought: "Where was my mind, why didn't I get my bike? My God! But is nothing. I am resting a bit and after rest I will move on." While resting he realized that his stomach was starting to be restless, and the urge to eat something was getting stronger. Hmm, Badger thought:" I'm starting to get hungry, in the rush I left, I forgot to go to the kitchen to get some food with me." He looks around and sees an apple tree in front of him, picks some apples and starts to eat them. While eating them, being hot outside, he gets thirsty, but he has not taken any water. "Come on, I can find some fountain", says Badger thirstily and with a slightly hungry sensation, goes further in the search for water, under the scorching sun.

The shoes began to pinch and dark clouds gathered above. He had no clue where to go, the idea of freedom and enthusiasm started to abandon him. In a short time it started to rain, now he was wet and the evening was approaching, the temperature was falling and he had an unpleasant feeling of cold and humidity.

The thought of the warm place at home, the good food made by his mother, were increasingly coming into his mind. Now, home didn't seem so terrible anymore, but even a beautiful and loving place. While he was thinking about his home, it was getting colder and colder, and then a pack of stray dogs chased him. Running very fast, because Badger was good in sports, he managed to climb a tree. There, frightened and sad, he fell asleep.

When he woke up, he was in a room with some severe people asking him what he was doing in the tree alone at his age. Why isn't he at home and where are his parents? It was the children's police, who were looking for children who fled from their homes. Badger told them his story and asked them to help him find his way back home. In the end, he found his parents worried and very sad. He felt guilty for causing them so much pain. He promised he would collaborate and listen to them, from now on. Finally for Badger home was really home .
